Windows of light

Here you will find series of images created by artificial light and colour.

The changes in colour in each series is to form a response to the changes of a space when a source of light both enters and leaves. The purpose of these series’ is to beckon from the viewer a closer gaze and immersion to the abstract image.

The effect of the abstract form of these images is to form immersion and to carry the viewers gaze inwards, being a reflection within themselves on their perspective in response to the colour and protruding of light through their own view and experience.

This work is in particular inspiration and response to the Light and Space Movement of the late 1960’s in South California. And heavily to the work of James Turrell, who’s work with using light as the medium to create rooms where the viewer is “seeing themselves see”. Specifically his work in the Solomon R. Guggenheim NY exhibition (2015) with his piece in the rotunda of the gallery space called ‘Aten Reigh (2013).

While Turrell works with both natural and artificial lighting together, my works below aim to ignore our natural light for the artificial light what is becoming an ever growing presence in the spaces we create and our existence.

I am exploring the thought of a world with the only exisitance of illumination is of pure artificial light.
